I am 19 years old and was diagnosed with diabetes about five years ago, two days after my 13th birthday. I played football and lacrosse at New Trier High School. I am now studying business at Indiana University. Living as an athlete with diabetes is not easy, especially for young adults. I strive to work and show other people living with diabetes that anything is possible and that you can break through the restraints that diabetes may have on you.
I’m a sophomore at Northern Illinois University and have lived as an athlete with type 1 diabetes for over 10 years now. I’m a sophomore at Northern Illinois University and have lived as an athlete with type 1 diabetes for over 10 years now. Despite being told my athletic participation could be limited because of my newly diagnosed autoimmune disorder, I fought hard to ensure that I could overcome the obstacles to exceed these predictions. I played varsity football and basketball along with many other sports growing up, and am excited to continue my athletic and academic career at Northern Illinois University studying Biomedical Engineering. I am to work with other type 1 athletes to help them understand that with hard work, determination, perseverance, and commitment all dreams and aspirations are possible.
I'm a senior at New Trier High School and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes shortly after my 14th birthday. I play football and baseball and am looking forward to helping other athletes with diabetes continue their passion for sports and accomplish their goals.
